Reporting at the event was Media Cub Ben, who spoke to guests, those shortlisted and winners of various categories in the Spirit of Manchester Awards – including the winner of the ‘Creative Community Spirit’ award –
Afrocats, which was sponsored by Media Cubs.
Ben was delighted to have the honour of presenting them with the award too, on the stage in front of hundreds of people.
He said: “What an experience, I absolutely loved being a part of the Spirit of Manchester Awards. I knew Manchester was great but to hear all about these fantastic organisations was amazing. I was really nervous to go up on to stage to present the award – but so glad that I did. This is just another way that Media Cubs is helping me build my confidence, and I am very grateful.”
2022 was a special Spirit of Manchester Awards as it was the 10th Anniversary and it was also MACC’s first live, face to face event since 2019.
Kirsty Day, project leader for Media Cubs, said: “The annual ‘Spirit of Manchester’ programme is a celebration of the work of thousands of voluntary organisations, community groups, charities and social enterprises in Manchester. We, like MACC, believe it’s important to recognise, support and encourage volunteers and local voluntary action. And it was an honour to be in the room with all these amazing people and have a young person interview these people and learn more about their great city!”
