Mini reporters from our online newsroom club held their very own press conference with a magistrate from Greater Manchester, also known as a Justice of Peace (JP).
Paul Brearley sits on the bench for local family courts and is also the Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Stockport division.
Our reporters turned the tables and put Paul in the hotseat to quiz him about his volunteer role and why more young people should consider becoming a magistrate themselves.
Paul said: “We really do want to encourage young people to consider applying to join the magistracy. We really have got to get an awful lot smarter in how we let young people know that their views and opinion and truly wanted, needed and appreciated.”
The press conference was organised thanks to our partnership with the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, helping to amplify more young voices from across Greater Manchester.
