Media Cubs x F92 takeover day at Salford City Football Club

Young reporters from schools in Salford and Manchester enjoyed a ‘takeover day’ at Salford CIty Football Club in collaboration with Foundation92 (F92).

Media Cubs has teamed up with F92, the official charity partner of Salford City FC, for a new pilot programme called Sporting Explorers – thanks to funding from Sport England.

Key stage 2 children had been building their media skills alongside different sports each week with Media Cubs and F92, such as learning how to commentate a football match and create match posters for a hockey league.

After five weeks of becoming Media Cubs crew members, the young people of St Philip’s R C Primary School and Cheetwood Primary School were invited to Salford City FC to see where their skills may take them.

The group was given a fantastic tour around Peninsula Stadium from Creative Lead Andrew Gordon, with a sneak peak behind the scenes of a match, such as the dressing rooms, the manager’s office, and the press box overlooking the pitch.

The ‘Sporting Explorers’ loved walking through the tunnel and sitting on the bench where their local players sit. They were even let in on a few marketing secrets, like why the colour of the kit matters so much when playing EA Sports FC… You’d have to visit to find out!

At the end of the day, a surprise celebrity made a guest appearance… The one and only, Salford FC team Mascot, Billy the Lion – who was a real hit!

Media director for Media Cubs, Kirsty Day, said: “We loved taking the schools to Salford City. The groups enjoyed learning new skills each week and put them to great use when asking questions on the stadium tour. I think we have found some sports interviewers of the future!”

We love collaborating with local organisations to give exciting opportunities for schools and clubs alike. Get in touch if we can add some media skills to your next session:
