Media Cubs reporters create special ‘Stop Loan Sharks’ content for national organisation

A team of young reporters recruited at Wigan Youth Zone have been busy creating a wide range of engaging digital content for Stop Loan Sharks, who investigate and prosecute illegal money lenders in England.
They have worked hard to produce a news report, a TV advert inspired video and a series of TikTok and Instagram reels to spread the message about staying safe when borrowing money.
The videos are aimed at other young people and young adults who may be at risk of borrowing with a loan shark, and the TikTok’s especially make use of current trends to engage audiences
Project leader, Jodie Smith, said: “Our six reporters did a fantastic job and I hope they now feel well versed in both the dangers of illegal money lenders and a range of media skills.
“The team got to try their hand at roles in front and behind the camera and I hope they are really proud of what they produced together.”
To celebrate the end of the project the reporters enjoyed a special premiere party, inviting their friends to come and watch their videos on the big screen, complete with pizza, popcorn and ‘BAFTA’ awards.
Mini reporter, Katie, said: “I really liked the project because it brought out confidence in me that I never knew was possible.”
